Home for Spring

We just spent a long weekend back home in Nebraska to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday and to see family. We had a terriffic time sharing meals, playing with our nephews, brushing up on our wii skills, rummaging for vintage finds at my favorite hole-in-the-wall antique shop and visiting our alma mater, the University of Nebraska for their annual red and white football game.

Whenever we make the trip back, I always enjoy perusing the yard back home. Planting bulbs and pots full of flowers was always a favorite hobby of mine during highschool (no surprise I have my floral business now I suppose) so it's nice to see the faces of the pink tulips I buried in the cold October ground when I was about 16 and the volunteer violets scattered around the river rock. It did my heart good to see the one remaining lilac bush in bloom - the only one that survived the neighbors crusade to remove the flowering hedge and replace it with a hideous chain link fence. And then there was the lovely scent of the blossoming Queen Anne cherry tree outside my old bedroom window. It was good to be home.

  1. Oh this makes me miss Nebraska! We had flowering trees lining the streets of our neighborbood growing up! I think we need to do a little hunting for some flowering tree lined neighborhoods here in Denver.
    xo!
