Hit The Ground Running

Well hello. Nice to see you. I've been MIA this week since returning from my trip home to celebrate my nephew's birthday (which was deeeelightful, by the way). I literally hit the ground running on Tuesday and haven't stopped since. Things I still need to do:

Unpack my suitcase
Do a bazillion loads of laundry
Clean the house
Shop for groceries
Make some stuff to sell at the craft show THIS Saturday (yikes!)

And instead of working feverishly on this list, I scored last minute tickets (thanks Nicole!) to the Mumford & Sons show last night. Not the best use of time... but then it again it was. They were brilliant.

How's your week going?

Homeward Bound & Happy Friday!

My adorable, funny and incredibly brilliant little nephew is turning 3 this weekend and so I am doing my duty (with great happiness) and representing the Colorado branch of the family and heading home for his shindig.
Little B (the birthday boy) has a little brother P and I cannot wait to see these precious munchkins. There will be singing and running and playing and tickling going on all weekend long.

And what are your weekend plans? Whatever they are, enjoy yourself. I can guarantee you I'll be having a hootin' good time!

Etsy Love

The light and pretty much everything else is fantastic about the work of this Indiana based photographer.
I know a few folks who are moving into new homes this fall and I think any of her images would make a lovely house warming gift - especially for the lady of house.

For the full portfolio of loveliness, check out the light fantastic on Etsy and get a jump on your Christmas shopping or better yet - treat yourself to a little something.

Fern & Flora Wednesday

If you're in my neck-o-the-woods next Saturday, the Art by Craft Market will be taking place at the very cool Museum of Contemporary Art downtown. Fern & Flora will be there along with Kara Rosenberry Co selling our products and enjoying our first ever show in a real, true art gallery. Pretty nifty.

Admission is virtually free (it's a penny - which I think we can all afford even during a recession) and one can browse the museum and view work of local artists on display and shop the craft market too. Christmas shopping combined with a cultural experience - what could be better?

Tasty Tuesday

Today I have to share with you a most tasty salad that I made last week, again from my Cooking Light magazine that the hubs kindly gave me. I'm sure he's ever so glad he did since he is reaping the benefits as I cook with abandon from its pages.

Back to the salad. It's mighty easy but tastes gourmet with its dijon and apricot dressing, goat cheese and prosciutto.

For the greens, combine arugula (my current favorite), Belgian endive and leaf lettuce.
Thinly slice a tart apple - I used Fuji but the recipe called for Granny Smith. Toss in some walnuts and add the dressing.

We devoured this salad along with bowls of creamy potato soup and crusty bread. It was a cozy fall meal to be sure!

Monday Greetings

Hello Dearies. How was your fall weekend? There was eating of chili and watching of football and taking of naps at our house and it was nice.

I'm feeling a lack of blog inspiration today. I tried last night to put something of interest together and it seemed that the harder I tried, the less it worked. So I thought I would show you this picture I snapped during our trip to Seattle. Isn't that bench great - all shabby and chipped. It was like that apple feel down from the tree right in that spot, just waiting for it's picture to be taken.

Speaking of apples, have you been fortunate enough to munch on a honey crisp apple?? They truly are like candy. They are firm but juicy and sweet and tart at the same time. My other favorite is jazz. If you haven't tried these tasty varieties, do! Run to the market and buy them up since they are around only in the fall.

Fern & Flora Wednesday: Spice Flower

Fern & Flora needs to saddle up the previously mentioned crafting pony we like to call "Bullet." (we meaning myself, my friend Kara and my sister Darby) This season, I'm trying to figure out how to stock my Etsy boutique and prepare for a slew of local craft shows simultaneously. While Bullet and I figure this out, I've managed to put a few new pieces in my online shop.

This spicy autumnal piece is a true ode to fall with its color combination of mustard, gold and cinnabar. Take a peek at the other most recent offerings in the ol' etsy shop right here.

Wraps and Boots and Bracelets - Oh My!

I'm loving these soft and gorgeous pieces offered by Poetrie and Modcloth. That gray cardigan looks like the essence of comfort and style. I would put it on and never take it off (like I do leggings) and for less than $45 bucks? What a steal! And can we talk about the Ms. Darcy bracelet with the pink and gray cameos? What about that dusty scarf? And those boots?? I need to quit blogging and go do something to earn some extra cash. Alas. Fall clothing is simply the best.

Spaces to Inspire: A New York Farm House

Hello. How was your weekend? Needing a little eye candy to cheer up your Monday? Well take a gander at the gorgeously cozy and rustic interiors of the weekend home of Frederic Fekkai. Kind of reminds me of my my weekend home. What's that? Reminds you of yours too? Well isn't that funny.

If I were to imagine a room that represented autumn, I think this would be it.
That orange sofa makes me swoon.

A big, chunky kitchen fireplace would most certainly be a component on my list of dream house desires.

Fern & Flora Wednesday: The Horseshoe Market!

We had a truly wonderful (and profitable!) experience at the charming horseshoe market on Saturday!
It was a well-attended, well-planned, rootin' tootin' good time. Kara Rosenberry Co. and Fern & Flora shared a booth that we filled with our handmade products as well as vintage finds.

Tasty Tuesday: Vegetable Fall Curry

My dear husband gave me a subscription to Cooking Light for my birthday and I got my first issue a couple of weeks ago. Thumbing through the October issue got me all excited for warm and comfy meals. Tonight I made Fall Vegetable Curry. It was simple and deeelish.

A dash of olive oil and 1 cup of cubed sweet potatoes sauteing in the pan...

A 1/4 cup of sliced yellow onion and 1 cup of cauliflower florets get tossed in the pan...

Two teaspoons of that spicy goodness called madras curry...

Toss in a dash of sea salt, 1/2 cup vegetable broth, 1 can of diced tomatoes and 1 can of rinsed chick peas...

Let all those veggies simmer in the broth for 10 minutes...

Serve over basmati rice with a dollop of Greek yogurt on top to off-set the spicy curry. Mmmm.

Inspiration for a Monday

Here's some eye candy for your Monday. These gorgeous images are the work of British photographer Rachel Whiting. I love the mood that her work evokes. Here's to autumn...

 Listen! the wind is rising,
and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings,
now for October eves!
